Hurstpierpoint College Classics Society presents:
“How to Build a Heroine: Catullus’ Ariadne and Virgil’s Dido”
An evening talk by Dr Gail Trimble (Oxford) at Hurstpierpoint College, West Sussex.
Thursday 29th January, 7-8pm.
We are delighted to welcome Dr Gail Trimble to Hurst to speak about the nature of heroines in antiquity, with particular attention paid to Ariadne from Catullus’ Poem 64 and Virgil’s Dido. Dr Trimble will speak about the ways in which these authors have constructed their heroines; the stories these women told, how they expressed themselves and why their place in literature matters.
All are welcome to attend and the evening promises to be of particular interest for all students of Latin and Classics from Year 11 and above. Refreshments will be available.
