JOB | Teacher of Classics, Haileybury

Teacher of Classics

September 2026 or January 2027

An opportunity has arisen to join Haileybury’s outstanding Classics department.

In the classical languages, we aim both to improve fluency in reading the language (as a language, rather than just a code) and accuracy of translation. As such, we use the comprehensible input approach, employing extensive reading of comprehensible and compelling texts, with sheltered and flooded vocabulary. Haileybury leads the country in innovative pedagogy with department members speaking about the approach at the University of Cambridge and internationally. Candidates who are without experience of the comprehensible input approach but who are willing to adapt their practice to this method are very much encouraged to apply.

Classics is taught at the heart of the school in bright, recently-refurbished and well-appointed classrooms in a historic building. The department consists of six full-time teachers who work collaboratively and are passionate about developing their practice.

The successful applicant will be educated to a degree level within a relevant subject. Applications are welcomed both from experienced and early career teachers. Experience of teaching any of IB, A Level or GCSE is desirable but not essential. The successful candidate will also have an interest in fostering lifelong learning in our pupils and the ability to stretch pupils beyond the curriculum.

Please see the candidate brief for more information.
