Aeschylus’ Libation Bearers and Eumenides
29th–30th January 2026, Warwick Arts Centre
We are pleased to announce that the Warwick Ancient Drama Festival will return in January 2026. The festival will take place on the 29th and 30th January 2026, with the 30th specifically dedicated to schools (‘Schools Day’).
Programme for the Festival
The Performance
This year, the Department of Classics and Ancient History will present the second part of Aeschylus’ Oresteia trilogy- a performance of the Libation Bearers and Eumenides combined. The play, performed at the Warwick Arts Centre, will be directed and produced by the Classics students at Warwick. Follow the production on Instagram at: https://www.instagram.com/warwickclassicsplay/.

There will be three performances:
- Thursday 29th January 2026, 7:00-9:15pm
- Friday 30th January 2026, 3:30-5:45pm (Matinee performance, FREE for schools)
- Friday 30th January 2026, 7:00-9:15pm
For more information on this year’s production and to view resources from previous years, please see our website: https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/arts/classics/research/outreach/dramafestival/.
Lectures, Talks, and Discussions
Each performance will be accompanied by assorted talks and lectures from scholars of Greek drama. Please see the programme for full details.
Booking the Schools Day
The Schools’ Day (Friday 30th), including the matinee performance, is FREE, but attendees are asked to organise their own transportation and lunch.
If you wish to book your pupils for this day, please email with the following information:
1. The number of participants, including teachers
2. Whether anyone coming with you has any accessibility requirements.
*Please do not over-estimate student numbers*
It has been frustrating, in previous years, to see empty seats at this over-subscribed event.
If you miss out on the Schools Day
If you are unable to make the Matinee performance, or if booking capacity has been reached, schools are welcome to attend the evening performances on either Thursday 29th January 2026, 7:00-9:15pm or Friday 30th January 2026, 7:00-9:15pm at a greatly reduced cost of £4 per seat. Please email to book tickets for these performances.
