Last call! There are only a few spaces left for the ARLT Summer School. This year, it will take place at Stamford School from Monday 29th July – Friday 2nd August, and it will be directed by Alex Smith.
Here is a reminder of what to expect:
Option Groups
Our workshops are delivered by practising teachers, and they provide invaluable resources to prepare for the year ahead. But do not worry if you need a break from marking schemes and schemes of work; we also have a variety of fun options that go beyond the curriculum.
This year, we will work on Greek and Latin set texts (OCR and Eduqas), Classical Civilisation topics, spoken Latin, New Testament Greek, Teaching and Learning and more. You can find the full list of workshops on our website.
Excursion
Included in the cost of the Summer School is an excursion to Flag Fen. Hellene School Travel kindly sponsors our excursion.
Entertainment Night
One of the highlights of our week celebrating all things Classics and teaching is our show night. Come and join with your talents, or just see what others are doing! There will be singing, theatre, poetic readings and plenty of surprises.
Quiz
Finally a quiz you can shine at as a classicist! I am afraid I cannot say more, as the details are closely guarded until the very last minute.
Speakers
Last but definitely not least, we have a stellar list of speakers lined up:
Professor Stephen Heyworth (Oxford University) on Ovid’s Fasti and the Roman calendar
Jim Irvine (local farmer) on the discovery of the Ketton Roman Villa, near Stamford
Hannah Watkins (The Learning Adventure), Classics Trip Specialist
Angela Cheetham (Bedford Modern School) on the de Romanis course
Sebastian Hyams (Oxford University) on Ovid’s Double Heroides
Laila Tims (Hands Up Education) on the Suburani course
